PSA: PS Portal Cloud Streaming Beta Regularly Gets New Games
The stand-alone retail release comes with the same price point as the downloadable Steam release, which is about the cost of a night out at the movies. Portal may not last much longer than some feature films, but pound for pound it remains one of the best games on store shelves. At one point in the game, Chell is introduced to the Weighted Companion Cube, a simple cube with a pink heart logo on every side, which she must use to complete a test before being told it must be destroyed. It’s at this point the game becomes more difficult with the introduction of live fire turrets which can kill Chell should she stand openly in range of them.
Since Sony is adding new games to the cloud streaming list pretty much every week, one kind player has taken it upon themselves to compile a list of streamable games, which can be accessed here. The list also contains each game’s release date, genre, Metacritic score, and a link to its Metacritic page. PlayStation Portal™ Remote Player can stream compatible games installed on your PS5 console.
New Free & Subscription Games for All Platforms
- The song “Still Alive” plays in the credits, signifying that GLaDOS is not dead and has some unfinished business to take of with Chell.
- GLaDOS berates Chell and prepares a “surprise”, only for a personality core to fall off; Chell drops it in an incinerator.
- The test chambers become increasingly dangerous and difficult throughout the game as Chell proceeds.
- If portal technology is the meat of the game, then GLaDOS is the perfectly paired wine.
Once learning the mechanics of buttons and weighted storage cubes, she is introduced to the Handheld Portal Device, which has the ability to fire portals at specific locations. GLaDOS becomes panicked and insists that she was only pretending to kill Chell, as part of testing and to come back to where she was. GLaDOS then asks Chell to assume the “party escort submission position”, lying face-first on the ground, so that a “party escort robot” can take her to her reward. Chell, thinking that GLaDOS is trying to trick her into a vulnerable position, continues forward. Throughout this section, GLaDOS still sends messages to Chell to come back; it becomes clear that she has been corrupted and may have killed everyone else in the center.

Portal might take place on February 28, 2011, being 50 days before the release of Portal 2, and it would still be around the time the Combine took over. Portal is a series of first-person puzzle-platform video games developed by Valve. Most of the tests involve using the “Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device” – nicknamed the portal gun – that creates a human-sized wormhole-like connection between two flat surfaces. The player-character or objects in the game world may move through portals while conserving their momentum. This allows complex “flinging” maneuvers to be used to cross wide gaps or perform other feats to reach the exit for each test chamber. A number of other mechanics, such as lasers, light bridges, high energy pellets, buttons, cubes, tractor funnels and turrets, exist to aid or hinder the player’s goal to reach the exit.
The final scene, after a long and speedy zoom through the bowels of the facility, shows a mix of shelves surrounding a brown cake with one candle and the Weighted Companion Cube. The shelves contain dozens of other cores, some of which begin to light up before a robotic arm descends and extinguishes the candle on the cake. At the end credits, GLaDOS (Ellen McLaine) sings a song named Still Alive, written by Jonathan Coulton. The plot of Portal is revealed to the player via audio messages from GLaDOS and side rooms found in the later levels. The game begins with protagonist Chell waking up from a stasis bed and getting instructions and warnings from GLaDOS about the upcoming test chamber experience.
Many criticized the PS Portal’s lack of direct streaming at launch, but have since praised the feature’s smooth rollout even in beta. No, using PlayStation Portal™ Remote Player and PlayStation® Remote Play does not require a PlayStation Plus membership2. PlayStation Portal™ Remote Player can deliver silky-smooth gameplay at up to 60fps with high image clarity on its 1080p resolution screen3. Sure, you know that if you place portals here and there, you will enter here and exit DetachedGaming.com there, but what if here is the floor 20 feet below you and there is a spot high up on the wall?
The Potato Sack game, launched on April 1, 2011, led to the reveal of “GLaDOS@home”, a spoof of distributed computer challenges, to get players to cooperate on playing the independent games as to unlock Portal 2 on Steam about 10 hours before its planned release. Season 2 of Squid Game introduced a new game called Mingle to the franchise that could be more easily recreated in New Horizons than some of the other games. The game relies on a carousel platform and requires players to enter a safe location based on the number that the voice has said. While it won’t be at the cost of a life in Animal Crossing, the Mingle game from the show could be easily done with some of the stands and room dividers from the shops on the island and the Design Portal. One of the most famous features of Portal, the game’s ending credits are accompanied by the song ‘Still Alive’.
Eventually, Chell enters a chamber, where a large computer AI system is hanging from the ceiling, and it is revealed that GLaDOS was in fact a computer all along. The morality core breaks and falls away from GLaDOS, who explains it was installed after she flooded the facility with a poisonous gas killing everyone and now she can do the same. A countdown timer starts, indicating how long until the facility is filled with poisonous gas. GLaDOS proceeds to fire rockets at Chell, who must use the Portal Gun to redirect the rockets toward GLaDOS.
